Three Factors in Gold's Future

Three Huge Factors In Gold’s Future

May 14, 2026

It’s not a mystery, the leading factors that will drive gold higher in the days to come.

The are debt, de-dollarization, and war.  None of them are going away.

We’ll keep it brief.  Here are three quick notes on these crucial factors.

  1. Debt

The US national debt has crossed a revealing metric. Fortune magazine explains, “The national debt now exceeds the size of the entire American economy. As of March 31, debt held by the public stood at $31.27 trillion, while nominal GDP over the prior 12-month period was an estimated $31.22 trillion—pushing the debt-to-GDP ratio to 100.2%.

2. De-Dollarization

We are known for describing the ending of the global dollar standard as the most important monetary megatrend of our times.  And why not?  The US tried to eclipse the historical and dependable monetary role of gold with the post-war Bretton Woods Agreement. It appeared to work for a while until the legalized counterfeiting of the Fed and the weaponization of the dollar caught up with it.

So here is a window into de-dollarization.  China just keeps on buying gold.  They are buying the dip in gold prices right now, and bought 8 tons of gold in April.

Line and bar chart showing China monthly gold reserves rising sharply from 2022 to 2024, ending at 74.64, with values near 74 by 2025–2026; bottom bars show rate of change with large spikes in 2022–2023 and small values thereafter up to 2026.

3. War

War drives people to the gold safety zone.  Not just because it destroys productivity (the bombing of roads, ports, factories, not to mention human beings), but because it destroys entire currencies.  An additional factor for Americans to consider is that the US pays for its wars with money-printing, inflation.

Michael Shedock notes that the $72 billion US spent in 60 days of its Iran war are only the direct costs. It does not include countless other costs such as business lost, and rising gas and fertilizer costs.
