What Triggers People to Buy Gold?
There are a lot of things. We’ll tell you what the biggest one is!
Over the years – decades really – people who long felt that they should invest in gold and silver have told us what finally triggered them to act.
It usually goes something like this:
“I always knew I should own gold, but I never actually did anything about it until…
- … the government shut down because it had to raise the debt ceiling.”
- … my bank wanted to know why I was withdrawing cash.”
- … I realized that nothing would stop Washington’s spending.”
- … banks started closing.”
- … the Federal Reserve kept saying inflation was ‘transitory’ when it wasn’t.”
- … people started telling me about money printing.”
- …I started noticing gold and silver prices climbing. It had to be for a reason.”
There are others things that move people to take action and protect their wealth, but the biggest one of all is:
… when I couldn’t ignore how fast my cost of living was rising. Groceries, utilities, insurance, medical bills, restaurants. That’s when I finally did what I knew I should do.”

That’s the one that hits people hardest. The cost of living. At first, they may just assume that they are seeing higher prices in one or two individual items. “Wow! I can’t believe the price of beef,” or “Look as these utility bills.”
But eventually people realize it’s not just the rising price of one or two items. It’s everything. It’s the failure of the dollar to preserve its purchasing power.
That’s the essential realization. In the old days, in a more honest time, economist used to define the word “inflation” as an increase in the supply of money and credit (which in turn leads to higher prices). But gradually the culprits were allowed to slink away in the middle of the night when economists, government officials and bureaucrats, and educators changed to term mean that rising prices themselves were inflation, and not a symptom of inflation. Accordingly inflation was a mysterious malady like some weird astrological conjunction. It couldn’t be the work of Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen and Jerome Powell and their cohorts.
So what is gnawing at you, giving you the feeling that you need to do something to protect your wealth and your family? It could be Washington’s reckless spending, the threat of war, shaky banks, government shutdowns.
Or it may simply be the unavoidable affordability crisis.
Whatever it is you should call or stop by Republic Monetary Exchange and huddle with one of our experienced gold and silver professionals. Don’t ignore that gnawing feeling that something is wrong.
