Wyoming’s Wise Plan to Buy Gold is Working

Gold: Not Just for Central Banks Anymore!

Washington’s criminal-level financial and monetary corruption has reached the point that even individual states that joined together to form the national government in the first place, are now looking for ways to protect themselves from that which they created.

Wyoming State Senator Bob Ide

A state law in Wyoming passed in 2025 required the state to purchase $10 million in gold to protect itself from ongoing US dollar devaluation.

A Wyoming state treasury official confirmed recently that it purchased 2,312 ounces of gold, at $4,337.60 per ounce in December.

In a world in which central banks are de-dollarizing with gold purchases measured in metric tons, Wyoming’s purchase is not a lot of gold, but as the punch line of countless jokes says, “It’s a start!”

The Cowboy State joins the stampede!

The significance of the purchase is less about the size of Wyoming’s turn to gold and more that it represents a fundamental mistrust of what we call the Deep State Money Manipulators of Washington.  Cowboy State Daily, an independent Wyoming news site, reports that the bill’s sponsor is calling attention to how much gain the gold ownership has already brought the state:

Wyoming’s newly purchased gold is worth $400,000 more now than when it was acquired a month ago, and State Sen. Bob Ide, R-Casper, isn’t being quiet about that, at all. To him, that meteoric rise in value is exactly the point behind the Wyoming Gold Act, which he sponsored during last year’s legislative session.

“We have to think outside the box,” Ide told Cowboy State Daily. “We have to take measures to protect what we’ve stored. These dollar-denominated investments are priced in dollars, and the dollar’s getting diluted and debased rapidly. I mean we have $2 trillion federal deficits as far as the eye can see.”

As we pointed out recently in 2024, the gross interest on the US national debt exceeded $1 trillion for the first time ever.  Last year Washington added $1 trillion to the US national debt every 150 days.  Now it adds $1 trillion in additional debt every 71 days.

Senator Ide says that gold is a “BS meter,” calling out monetary irresponsibility.  “We need to buy more hedges against the debasement machine back in the Federal Reserve. That’s kind of the whole mission on this is to protect our store of wealth. (Gold) is a good strategic asset to hedge against the monetary debasement of our dollar.”

And that is sound advice for central banks and states no less than for individuals.
